Patrick Henry Chapter, Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution held their monthly meeting Sat, 21st of June and our guest speaker was Steven Gonzales who spoke on the historic trails of Texas and especially the El Camino Real de los Tejas that runs from Mexico up through Texas.  San Antonio, Nacogdoches, and Laredo were founded along El Camino Real de los Tejas, now a national historic trail. Segments of the camino have become part of the modern highway system crossing Texas.  For more information, please contact Steven Gonzales.  Their website can be found at:

June Edition of the “Compatriot Campfire”

As Compatriots we enjoy the freedoms that we have served and in many cases fought to preserve.  It is important to us that we make our own decisions and overcome obstacles in accordance with our own abilities and resources.  Through our service experiences, we learned to overcome adversity and we gained pride and confidence in ourselves because of it.  Some would say we are stubborn!  There is a saying “in every plan a little rain must fall.”  This age old proverb serves as an example that trials and tribulations are a part of life for us all.   When we see others struggling to cope with their own circumstances, our heart goes out to them naturally.  Our first consideration is to show kindness and when it is our turn; courage and determination to see it through.

Adam Lindsay Gordon (1833-1870, author and poet) says it best in his poem

Question Not

Question not, but live and labor,

Till your goal is won,

Helping every feeble neighbor,

Seeking help from none;

Life is mostly froth and bubble,

Two things stand like stone —

Kindness is another’s trouble,

Courage in our own.

By serving our fellow countrymen, we are serving our Country even as our brave forefathers did in their wisdom and mercy.

May God bless you and your loved ones with the kindness of others all the days of your life……
