Compatriots and Friends,
We had our first chapter meeting of the new year this past Saturday and like most January meetings the attendance was mall, however the camaraderie was outstanding!
We started our meeting with our guest Ruth Garza, who won an Brown Bess musket in a raffle by one of our brother chapters in Georgia. We are all jealous of that musket Ruth! Congratulations!
Unlike past meetings this month instead of a speaker we had a round-table discussion on the question: “Briefly describe how researching your family ancestors has altered, changed, or reinforced your view of history?” Several of our members spoke up on how their searches for ancestors highlighted the many ways their last names were variously spelled and not to give up your search, but to think how the name may have been either misheard, misspelled, or otherwise just plain wrong, don’t give up!
We also inducted two new members into our chapter. Lew and Hunter Hodge. Thank you both for your interest in our fine society and we look forward to seeing you both at future meetings.
Next month we will not be having our normal meeting as is our custom to celebrate George Washington’s Birthday at Chateau Bellevue with out other SAR and DAR chapters. This years speaker is Retired General Juan Ayala. I’ll be posting more information an the luncheon shortly.
