Operation Ancestor Search

The Patrick Henry Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution have a very successful Operation Ancestor Search program established at Fort Hood.  We have served over 150 wounded warriors in the past 14 months.  These warriors are served by volunteers from this chapter and Alexander Hamilton in Georgetown.

In January, 2017 we are going to branch out and offer OAS to the VA hospital in Temple.  I expect this addition to surpass the operation at Ft. Hood.  The fact is, we need volunteers.  We will be holding OAS meetings once a week (2 at Ft. Hood and 2 at Temple VA).  We need to add to our volunteer force to accomplish this expansion.  If you have any interest in Genealogy, and giving some meaningful help to wounded warriors, this plan is tailor-made for you.

Training on Ancestry.com is fairly simple.  It takes a few practice runs and you are ready to go.  You have expert help on site to assist you and the wounded warriors assigned to you.  You cannot fail and you cannot cause any damage.

We need a few members (and spouses too!) to commit to a few hours a month for the OAS program.  Each session lasts about two hours and the travel time is about the same.  Right now we meet on the 1st  Tuesday and on the 3rd Wednesday, depending on the schedule for the Wounded Warriors at Ft. Hood. I will try to avoid Fridays when scheduling the VA.  We often stop for lunch.  We can car pool to save money.

If you can give the chapter 4-5 hours a month, these programs will be successful.

If you can do more, even better.  You can pile up points for yourself and for the chapter doing veteran service.
